The Study Group Policy

ANBI Publication

The Study Group Stichting (also known as The Study Group Foundation) qualifies as an Algemeen Nut Beogende Instelling (ANBI – or Public Benefit Organisation) by the Dutch Tax Authority. Obtaining ANBI status requires organisations to submit their policy: an overview of the organisation’s objectives, activities, financing, and management practices. Though publishing the policy remains optional, we established The Study Group with a vision to be a truly transparent, genuine, co-operative organisation.

ANBI status is important as it enables:

  • Our donors to benefit from tax allowances through their donation to us

  • At least 90% accountability to our mission. Policy reporting and monitoring maintains transparency in our activities and financials

  • Continual evaluation of our set objectives, and transparency with our community, partners, and donors

Below is the information that we are required to publish as an ANBI. For further information, please contact us at info@thestudy.group.

OBJECTIVES

The Study Group was created in response to the lack of representation of people of colour and other underrepresented groups, and the evolution of these (sub-)cultures, in media and industry. The Study Group supports and works with these groups to build a sustainable environment of equal representation.

When we talk about underrepresented individuals, we refer directly to people of colour, womxn, the LGBTQ+ community, and all the intersectional experiences within these.

The Study Group aims to give underrepresented individuals the platform, tools, and supporting community to thrive alongside their counterparts, and activate inclusivity in partnership with those driven to really engage our communities and create inclusive work environments overall.

The Study Group Foundation, social enterprise The Study Group B.V., and media platform The Quick + The Brave, together form a self-sustaining ecosystem for underrepresented individuals to develop themselves, support each other, and engage the world at large with their talents and skills.

The Study Group Foundation offers creative and audio visual services, learning materials, and support tools for businesses and individuals through social enterprise The Study Group B.V.

ACTIVITIES

RESEARCH

We research the issues that impact underrepresented groups in professional spaces, with a focus on culture, inclusivity, sustainability and wellbeing. Our initial work will be around the creative industry. Data gathered from these think tank activities feeds into other activities around our mission.

TRAINING + DEVELOPMENT

We provide training, mentorship and career support for professionals from underrepresented backgrounds to enable them to gain industry experience, confidence and skills to enhance their career progression.

CORPORATE INCLUSIVITY

We also provide learning and development opportunities for employers who are driven to be inclusive and safe workspaces where diverse individuals can develop their careers alongside their counterparts.

CREATION

We produce multimedia content about culture, inclusivity, sustainability and self-care that is distributed via our media platform The Quick + The Brave. The Study Group program mentees see their work go out on our website (thequickandthebrave.com), radio station (tqtb.radio) and social media channels.

ACTIVITY HIGHLIGHTS

THE QUICK + THE BRAVE, The first issue of The Quick + The Brave was self-funded and went to print in October 2020. 10,000 copies of Journal 001 were distributed in select locations in major cities across the Netherlands, including Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Utrecht. We also shipped to readers across Europe, the UK, Asia and the United States. The Quick + The Brave Radio launched in November 2020.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

To raise awareness, activations for The Study Group Foundation take a community approach. On 1 January 2021, we distributed copies along with bouquets of flowers wrapped in striking images from Journal 001 to walkers in Amsterdam’s parks.

In addition to setting the tone for collective intentions to start a new year, we received donations from private individuals and representatives of cultural institutions. We also gained followers on social media channels and increased awareness of TQTB. Read more on this campaign here.

PARTNERSHIPS The Study Group BV released two productions with Dr Martens and Klimaatalarm in March 2021. 'Walk With Me' is a four-part video series highlighting unique voices from Amsterdam's creative community, in partnership with Dr. Martens Presents. To raise awareness and ring the alarm around environmental causes in the run-up to the Dutch general election, we collaborated with the Climate Crisis Coalition to produce a film featuring activists, environmentalists and everyday people from across the Netherlands who demand action for the environment – now.
